Former NFL Coach Holovak Dies at 88
Former coach of the Boston Patriots and a long time NFL executive, Mike Holovak, died on Sunday at the age of 88.

According to the Huston Chronicle, Holovak died at his home in Ruskin, Fla., as he suffered from complications from pneumonia.

Holovak was a former All-America running back star for the legendary coach Frank Leahy and then became the coach at Boston College, with which he won the 1940 national championship.

He was also a personnel director and general manager for the Houston Oils/Tennessee Titans franchise, as hall of fame guards such as Mike Munch and Bruce Matthews developed under his eyes and guidance.

Holovak helped the Boston Patriots, which he coached between 1961 and 1968 record their first postseason win with the team’s divisional playoff victory against Buffalo in 1963. In addition, the 53 wins during his career at the Boston Patriots are the second most in the franchise history, as only Bill Belichick has more wins, 105.

His NFL career covered 40 years during which he became the member of the State of Pennsylvania Hall of Fame, the Boston College Hall of Fame, the Orange Bowl Hall of Honor, the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame and the New England Sports Hall of Fame.
