Chris Carter, the mind behind “The X-Files,” hinted there might
be soon a third Hollywood movie installment
based on the cult TV series, EW.com reported. The creator appeared at the Comic
Con convention in New York
Friday, and mentioned this summer’s sequel to the original 1998 “X-Files” movie
could ultimately be part of a trilogy.
“We would like to make another film,” Carter told the Web
site. “We're not under the illusion that it's a given; we've got to perform
with (this summer's ‘X-Files: I Want to Believe’) in order to give it another
day,” he added.
Carter, who is “The X-Files” creator, executive producer and
the film’s writer and director, and Frank Spotnitz (the show’s executive
producer and director) revealed the movie’s title “I Want To Believe,” explaining
it was inspired by the well-known phrase shown throughout the show's run as the
slogan of a blurry UFO poster hanging in Mulder's FBI basement office.
Many Philes are still out there, and they gathered at New
York Comic Con's IGN.com theater in order to celebrate the unique TV phenomenon
and find out some hints of the upcoming movie.
Fans wanted to know what kind of Mulder (David Duchovny) and
Scully (Gillian Anderson) lovin' they would get with “Believe” and asked if the
rumors of a steamy Mulder and Scully sex scene being cut from the movie was
true. Carter adopted a mysterious attitude and did not provide many details,
but responded with “It's Mulder's” when asked, “Who's the father of Scully's
baby?” However, the greatest news to come out of the panel was the
statement that DC/Wildstorm will be publishing a new X-Files comic book series
later this year.
“I Want To Believe” is due out in U.S. theaters July 25 and would
mark a return of Duchovny and Anderson as the two FBI agents who investigate
the supernatural and the unexplainable.
