While Beijing is celebrating the beginning of the final 100 days countdown before the start of the Olympic Games, the controversial torch finally arrived on Chinese ground, in Hong Kong, on Wednesday. The torch relay is at the end of a chaotic 20- nation tour, which resulted in hundreds of protests against the Chinese crackdown in Tibet, with activists arrested in London, Paris, San Francisco and beaten with rocks in Seoul. On the way to Beijing, the Olympic flame, which is universally seen as the symbol of peace, support and friendship, has caused a lot of turbulences, as it got a little bit of political taste. China is struggling to keep the situation under control, but thousands and thousands of human rights supporters have gathered all around the world to express their disagreement with the Chinese government. However, the Chinese officials and Olympics organizers do not seem to be impressed. Only on Wednesday, at least 7 activists have been deported from Hong Kong before the torch arrived because the police thought they were threatening to the relay and three more were arrested soon after. Around 3.000 policemen guarded the torch as it arrived from Vietnam, keeping protesters as far away from it as they could. The arrival ceremony, as usual, had a marching band and children dressed in red and white waving flags. The torch was set to be driven to a welcome ceremony at the former British colony’s cultural center.
