The rockers from Bon Jovi are to
play a free concert in Central Park on July
12. The "All-Star Concert in Central Park"
will go on in association with the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which
is prearranged for July 15 at Yankee Stadium.
In the face of this
collaboration, the New Jersey
band’s lead singer confesses he is not the biggest baseball supporter. "I
like baseball, but the world knows I'm a football guy," said Jon Bon Jovi
in a statement released on Monday. "I own an arena team. I live and love
football."
The show will begin at 8 p.m. on
the park's Great Lawn and will not be broadcasted. In case rain begins, the
performance will be called off. Fans’ entrance will be allowed after 2 p.m.
They should also know that 60,000 tickets will be distributed around the city beginning
July 2. The number of tickets isn’t higher with the aim of keeping the
protection of the lawn’s grass.
According to New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, the
purpose is maintaining the park open and, at the same time, ensuring that the investment the public made is protected. The mayor said preventive measures
would be taken to safeguard the lawn. During the Republican National Convention,
2004, the city declined to tolerate an anti-war protest in the park, invoking
the reason that it would harm the grass.
