Pamela Jelimo of Kenya won't be able to seek another million-dollar jackpot as the 800 metres is not among the disciplines confirmed on Thursday for the elite Golden League athletics series in 2009.
The ruling body IAAF said in a statement that Golden league disciplines next year are the men's 100 metres, 400m, 3,000m/5,000m, 110m hurdles, javelin, and the women's 100m, 400, 100m hurdles, high jump and pole vault.
The 1-million-dollar jackpot goes to athletes who win their discipline at all six stops of the series. Jelimo was the only six-time winner in 2008. If no athlete gets six wins half of the money goes to five-time winners.
The 2009 dates are Berlin June 14, Oslo July 3, Rome July 10, Paris July 17, Zurich August 28 and Brussels September 4.
It is unlikely that new sprint star Usain Bolt, the three-time Olympic champion and world record holder from Jamaica, will go for the jackpot in the men's 100m as sprinters carefully chose their events.
But Croatian high-jumper Blanka Vlasic gets another chance after missing out on the 2008 payday with a last-meet defeat.
Other contenders could include Russian pole vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva (2007 winner), Cuban hurdles ace Dayron Robles and Ethiopian distance runner Tirunesh Dibaba and former jackpot winner Jeremy Wariner of the US in the 400m.
It is not known yet which athletes will be competing next year but IAAF boss Lamine Diack expressed his hope "of seeing the most charismatic stars of our sport in action on the Golden League stage."
