Kerry Thomas Convicted for Knowingly Spreading HIV
Former BSU player Kerry Thomas faces new charges for knowingly spreading the HIV virus. According to media reports, an Ada County, Idaho, grand jury on Tuesday returned an indictment charging Kerry Thomas with seven counts of knowingly transferring the HIV virus.
These charges carry a maximum sentence of 15 years and a $50,000 fine.

However, this is not Thomas’ first attempt to transmit the HIV virus. Almost 20 years ago, he was charged with four counts of HIV transmission and two counts of statutory rape, according to Jean Fisher, Ada County deputy prosecutor. In 1996 Thomas was again charged with one count of HIV transmission.

Kerry Thomas played basketball for Boise State University as a reserve guard in the early 1980s. He left the team after being declared academically ineligible. He also played basketball for Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa in 1987.

According to CDC, even French or open mouth kissing is a risk for transmission of HIV as partners may come into contact with blood. Saliva, tears, sweat or urine are not considered infectious. Activities that allow HIV transmission include unprotected sexual contact, direct blood contact, including injection drug needles, blood transfusions, accidents in health care settings or certain blood products, and mother to baby, before or during birth, or through breast milk.
