NASA Considering Discovery Launch Attempt On Sunday
Discovery missed another launch opportunity this week, after a leak associated with the gaseous hydrogen venting system forced NASA to postpone the mission. While there is still no confirmation on the next launch opportunity, the agency said it will take place no earlier than March 15.

A briefing on Sunday’s probable launch is expected to take place on Friday at 4 p.m. EDT. Base on the assessment made so far, the shuttle specialists seem confident that a launch will be possible at the end of the week, at around 7:43 p.m.

“The exact launch date is dependent on the work necessary to repair the problem,” NASA said in a statement. Managers will further assess the problem during today’s meeting.

The launch was supposed to take place on Wednesday, but it was postponed after a leak associated with the gaseous hydrogen venting system outside the external fuel tank, which is used to carry excess hydrogen away from the launch pad.

The shuttle Discovery is preparing for a 14-day mission, during which it will deliver the final set of solar array wings for the International Space Station to complete the station’s truss. The mission was initially scheduled to launch on February 12, but it has been delayed multiple times.
