Peca and Blue Jacketrs Reach Terms

Michael Peca and the Columbus Blue Jackets reportedly agreed on a on a one-year contract deal. The financial details of the setlement weren’t disclosed but Don Meehan, Peca's agent, confirmed to TSN that the deal will become official after the player will undergo the physical.

The Blue Jackets want to make sure the 33-year-old has fully recovered from a badly broken right leg he suffered while playing for theToronto Maple Leafs in December.

Last week it appeared Peca, a two-time Selke trophy winner, will sign with the Rangers. He spent two days in New York meeting with the coaches and management and undergoing physical tests there.

However, the Rangers were undecided and the Blue Jackets became interested and took action as centre Alexander Svitov decided to return to Russia rather than. That freed up about $1 million (all figures U.S.) in cap space and created the need for a centre.

Peca stared in 35 games last season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who signed him for a $2.5-million US contract on July 18, 2006.

The Toronto native recorded four goals and 11 assists for 15 points before breaking his right leg in a first-period collision with defenceman Jim Vandermeer in a 3-1 road loss to the Chicago Blackhawks last Dec. 22.
