The constantly developing story of troubled celebrity couple Rihanna and Chris Brown reached the point where Chris Brown is due in court today to answer charges relating to his alleged assault on Rihanna on February 8.
The 19-year-old R&B singer is required to appear at Los Angeles court because the date was set after Brown’s initial arrest. However, by late Wednesday, prosecutors were still without the LAPD's case against Brown, as experts speculated there may be a deal in the works to spare him felony charges for his alleged attack on Rihanna.
"Certainly good attorneys will try to intercede and work out something before charges are brought to court. But these types of pleas are more typical in misdemeanor cases," said Dmitry Gorin, a former deputy district attorney.
In order to file any charges in cases of domestic violence, prosecutors need the victim's cooperation, and according to reports, the 21-year-old Barbados beauty refused to do so. However, new evidence emerged, including pictures (obtained by Radaronline.com) of the bloodied inside of the Lamborghini Brown was driving the night he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend.
The photos, taken after police had collected evidence from the crime scene, according to Radar, show Rihanna's blood near the handbrake, and other signs of a violent struggle. Experts said the crime scene photos could be enough to convict Brown on battery charges and put him behind bars.
Aside from the photo evidence, the L.A. County District Attorney may use as evidence the interview LA cops took of Rihanna immediately after the incident, when she told them Brown had been violent toward her in the past and that the attacks were getting "more violent" as time went on.
According to a recent report by E! Online, Rihanna's clothes on the night of the attack, an $11,000 Gucci gown the singer wore at Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy bash, has reportedly been entered into evidence.
"The police took Rihanna's dress into evidence because it had bloodstains on it," a source told the entertainment source.
The case was presented by police weeks ago but prosecutors asked for more information before deciding what charges, if any, to pursue.
Reached by phone, Brown's celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos, who has helped Michael Jackson and Winona Ryder get out of major legal jams, declined to comment and said he might be able to speak this afternoon.
While Chris Brown is yet to be formally charged with any crime by prosecutors, Brown and Rihanna reportedly reunited in Miami over the weekend where the two reportedly stayed at one of Sean "Diddy" Combs' homes on Star ¬Island. Star magazine went as far as reporting the newly reconciled pair got married after Brown asked for Rihanna's forgiveness and proposed on the spot.
